Special conference – Inspire Power: Food Security for Developing Countries and Award Ceremony of the UNIDO ITPO International Challenge “Innovative Ideas and Technologies on Agribusiness” In partnership with UNIDO / CNR, Seeds&Chips, Milan, 10th May 2017

The second edition of the UNIDO International Award has been an initiative to detect the best innovative ideas and agribusiness technologies applicable in developing countries. Under the supports of the Special Conference – Inspire Power: Food Security for Developing Countries, held at Seeds & Chips 2017, the Ceremony of Awarding of the “Innovative Ideas and Agribusiness Technologies” competition has been held, an initiative promoted by UNIDO ITPO Italy, Seeds & Chips, CNR and under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Out of 330 participants from over 80 countries, a total of 5 Italian and international start-ups have received awards under the following three categories: Overall, Women, Under 35. For the Women category, through the selection of a special jury, the prize has been assigned to Dr. Angela Montanari, as project manager for BiocopacPlus.
BiocopacPlus concerns three themes outlined in the call for proposals: – Technologies for the improvement of food preservation, with special attention to the use of innovative materials; – Innovative technologies and ideas for enhancing agricultural products in agricultural communities and combating food waste; – Innovative solutions related to environmental technologies linked to the agricultural world, biotechnology, waste management and energy production. As far as the possible contribution to developing countries is concerned, it is good to consider that bio-paint could be a boost in the food processing industry, thus generating a widespread purchasing power. BiocopacPlus would support the local production chain, ensuring a greater balance of sustainable agricultural development between advanced and developing countries.
